How to measure solar production with Perific

Estimated time to read: 3 min

In order for Perific to be able to measure the solar production in the property correctly, the installation needs to be carried out in accordance with the following:

  • The three sensors on L1, L2 and L3 may only measure consumption

  • A fourth sensor is installed at L4 which can only measure solar energy/production

Keep in mind that the Monitor combined with a solar system will not function properly if the solar system has a solar battery storage.

The property needs to be separated for correct measuring

In order for the Monitor to be able to measure solar production, the property needs to be split up. Here's how it should be done.

If you have a hybrid inverter, the installation is more of complex matter. Please contact our support.

You will need a fourth sensor (L4 sensor)

When using the Monitor for measuring a solar system, a fourth sensor (L4) must be purchased.

The L4 sensor should be connected around one phase from the inverter and should only measure solar energy production.

Mount the single sensor for solar production and the three consumption sensors

The property needs to be divided. Perific's sensors should not be mounted on cables where there is both production and consumption flow.

Since the sensors don't measure the direction of the current, the property needs to be divided.

Divide the property so that the sensors mounted on L1, L2 and L3 measure "one-way paths" where there is only consumption.

The sensor on L4 needs to be mounted on another "one-way path" where there is only production. This is usually a single phase located from the inverter.

Where to place the inverter

If it is a new installation, the best location of the inverter is as close to the main terminal (p1) as possible.

This is to reduce the complexity of the measurement and to reduce the number of load balancers used.

Change measurement type to 3-phase in the Perific app

Once the installation of the Monitor is complete and the property is partitioned in accordance with the instructions above, there is only one thing left to do. In the Perific app, you need to change the type of measurement to 3-phase consumption and solar production. You do this as follows:

Go to the Physical device Press the arrow Settings→ Settings measurement→ 3-phase consumption and solar production
